Magnesium alloys
Magnesium alloys, used in foundry work, represent approximately one-third of total worldwide demand for the metal.
MAGNESIUM SETS A NEW DESIGN AND QUALITY TREND: DURABILITY, STRENGTH, PRECISION AND NO NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

MAGNESIUM IS an optimal solution for all applications where weight reduction is a key issue. It is almost light as plastics, but offers a better strength, stiffness, durability, heat dissipation and a natural EMI shielding.
- a quarter the weight of steel and 30% lighter than aluminium,
- a good conductor, 100x times better heat dissipation than plastics,
- protects fragile electronics providing a good EMI shielding,
- dent-resistant and provides a very good vibration dampening,
- ease of machining, possible to achieve very fast cutting speed,
- major environmental advantage of being recyclable,
- magnesium supply is almost unlimited (sea water or ores)
- among characteristics crucial for metal casting - Magnesium is also an essential element for all living organisms, both animal and vegetable. Chlorophyll, the photo-synthetic green material in plants being built around a magnesium atom, while in animals, magnesium is a key component of bones and tissues.
MAGNESIUM ALLOYS, general characteristics:
ALLOY | APPLICATION |
AZ91 | Most universal magnesium alloy – high strength and hardness, very often used in electronic components, power tools and other electro engineering applications. Parts such as covers, lids, housings, connectors, or hardware: window & door handles, lock housings, bolts. |
AM50 i AM60 | Both alloys combine high strength, outstanding ductility with a good "castability" and cold-workability. Mostly used in automotive (for example as a steering wheel). |
AM-Lite | Innovative magnesium alloy with increased zinc content, designed for decorative parts with electroplating finish. |
SPECIAL MAGNESIUM ALLOYS, general characteristics:
| ALLOY | APPLICATION |
| AE 44 | This pressure diecasting alloy contains rare earth metals. It has a good creep resistance and high ductility. It also has good corrosion protection properties. It is a preferred alloy in drive trains. |
| AJ 62 | It is a sand and permanent mold casting alloy. Contains strontium. It is especially suitable for high temperatures. |
| AS 31 | This pressure diecasting alloy offers good creeping properties and mechanical characteristics. It is often used in engine components. |
| AM 20 | This pressure diecasting alloy is highly ductile and is often used in the production of safety components. |
| AZ 31 | This alloy is mostly used in extruded sections, forged or deep-drawn components and in sheet metal production. It has good welding properties and due to its high ductility is well malleable. Is also used in magnesium anodes. |
